Students Discover Pathways Beyond the Classroom

At Nazareth, we know that there are so many different pathways into the workforce. Recently, the Stage 2 Industry Connections students have had many different opportunities to explore and learn about the many career opportunities that are present in South Australia. Last week, the class visited BAE Systems, a global defence, aerospace and security company that employs more than 100,000 people.

The visit gave students the chance to step inside the shipyards and learn from professionals on the ground. They explored everything from apprenticeship pathways to the day-to-day workings of one of South Australia’s most significant employers.

Riley found the visit to BAE to be a highlight, as they learned more about how the team’s function. They were particularly struck by the scale of the operations, sharing, “I never knew how much BAE do, and how big the ships really are.”

Seb found the information provided throughout the day to be very beneficial, especially the introductory meeting, which helped him get “an idea on how to apply,” understand what skills might be necessary for a role like this, and learn “what area does what,” within BAE.

For Calum, the excursion was especially relevant to his future career goals, “because it involves doing practical and hands on activities to create designs.”

Back at school, students also heard from Chris at Outside Ideas, a civil construction company that’s paving the way in infrastructure projects. Chris shared the ins and outs of the industry and offered clear guidance on how to break into apprenticeships in construction.

These experiences provided our Industry Connections students with valuable perspectives on the workforce and helped them consider potential career directions. By engaging directly with professionals in the field, students are better prepared to make informed decisions about their futures.
